Privacy Policy
1. Overview
MakeVox (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a voice-first creative writing platform. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your data.
By using MakeVox you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
2. Your Content — You Own It
You retain all rights to your creative work. This includes every story, character, outline, world-building note, image, and piece of text you create or upload in MakeVox. We claim no ownership over your content whatsoever.
We store your content solely to provide the service to you — so it is available when you log in, synced across your devices, and recoverable if you clear your local storage.
3. We Do Not Use Your Content to Train AI Models
We do not use your content — stories, characters, outlines, or any other creative work — to train any AI model, whether operated by us or by a third-party provider. Your writing is your own. It is sent to AI providers (listed in Section 6) solely to perform the specific action you requested (e.g., transcribing a voice recording, generating a chapter edit, or creating a cover image). Once that action is complete, we do not retain or share your content for any training purpose.
4. We Do Not Sell or Share Your Content
We do not sell, license, or share your creative content with third parties for their own use. We do not sell your personal information. We share data with the service providers (Section 7) only to the extent necessary to operate the service.
5. How We Handle Audio
When you dictate using your microphone, the audio is transcribed into text in real time. The raw audio recording is discarded immediately after transcription — we do not store audio files. Only the resulting text transcript is saved to your project.
6. Information We Collect and Why
We collect the following categories of information:
Account information
Your name and email address, collected via our authentication provider when you create an account. We use this to identify you, let you log in, and send transactional emails (e.g., receipts, password reset).
Content you create
Stories, outlines, chapter text, character profiles, story-bible entries, art-bible entries, and images you generate or upload. Stored to provide the service — so your work persists across sessions. You can export or delete this at any time.
Payment information
Subscription billing is handled entirely by our third-party payment processor. We do not store your credit card numbers, CVV codes, or full payment details. We receive a customer ID and subscription status that allow us to gate premium features.
Usage metrics
We track voice-minutes transcribed and images generated per billing period. We use this solely for plan-limit metering and billing — for example, to display how much of your monthly voice allowance you have used.
Log and diagnostic data
Standard web server logs (IP address, browser user-agent, request paths, timestamps) are retained briefly for security monitoring and debugging.
Marketing attribution
If you arrive from an online ad or campaign link, we store the ad-click identifiers and campaign tags from that link (for example Google's gclid, Meta's fbclid, and UTM parameters) in a first-party cookie and associate them with your account when you sign up. We use this only to measure which campaigns lead to sign-ups and paid subscriptions, so we can spend marketing budget responsibly. See “Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising” below.
Push notification tokens
If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver writing reminders and collaboration alerts (for example, a comment on your story). You can turn these off in your device settings at any time.
7. Service Providers
To operate MakeVox we rely on established third-party service providers, each bound by contractual obligations consistent with this Policy. We use them in the following categories:
- Authentication — verifies your identity and keeps you signed in (stores your name and email).
- Payments — processes subscription billing. Your card details are held by our payment processor; we do not store them.
- AI processing — text generation, editing, and voice transcription. Your content is sent to our AI providers only to fulfill the specific action you requested, and they are bound by terms that prohibit using your inputs to train their models.
- Hosting, database, and storage — serves the application and stores your content, account data, and generated media.
- Email delivery — sends account and billing emails.
- Security and rate limiting — protects the service from abuse (no content stored).
- Analytics and advertising measurement — when enabled, receives conversion events (for example a sign-up or subscription) and hashed identifiers so we can measure how well our advertising performs. We do not send these providers your creative content.
- Push notifications — delivers reminders and collaboration alerts to your device when you enable notifications.
A current list of the specific providers in each category is available on request.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your information:
- Access. You can view the content and account data we hold for you by logging into MakeVox. You may contact us for a broader data export.
- Export. You can export your stories and creative content directly from the MakeVox application at any time.
- Correction. You can update your name and email through your account settings or by contacting us.
- Deletion. You can delete individual projects, characters, or content in-app. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at the address below. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
- Portability. We will provide your content in a machine-readable format upon request.
- Opt-out of marketing email. You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time via the unsubscribe link in the email or via your account settings. Transactional emails (receipts, security alerts) cannot be disabled while your account is active.
9. GDPR and CCPA Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you have additional legal rights:
GDPR (EEA / UK)
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your personal data; to object to processing; and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal bases for processing include performance of a contract (providing the service), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention), and your consent where applicable. Personal data may be transferred outside the EEA to our service providers in the United States; such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms).
CCPA (California)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete personal information, the right to opt out of the “sale” of personal information (note: we do not sell personal information), and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise your rights, contact us at the address below.
10. Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising
We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences (e.g., theme selection). We also use a first-party cookie to remember the ad or campaign that referred you (see “Marketing attribution” above).
When enabled, we use analytics and advertising tools — including Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel, and the Google Ads tag — to understand how the site is used and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising. These tools may set their own cookies and receive conversion events. You can limit this through your browser settings and the providers' opt-outs (for example, the Google Analytics opt-out and your Meta and Google ad settings), and we honor Global Privacy Control / Consent Mode signals where applicable. If you block all cookies, some features (including login) will not work.
11. Children
MakeVox is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
12. Data Retention
We retain your account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes (e.g., billing records for tax compliance, which we retain for the period required by applicable law). Backup copies may persist for a short additional period before they are overwritten in our rotation cycle.
13. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures: HTTPS in transit, encrypted database connections, and access controls limiting who within our team can access user data. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to us promptly at the address below.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email. Your continued use of MakeVox after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
