Reading Ambiance: give a scene its own soundscape
3 min read
A scene has a feeling before it has words. Rain against a window. The low hum of a cafe. A quiet tension you cannot quite name. Reading Ambiance lets you lay a subtle soundscape under a section, so the passage can be experienced, not just read.
Matched to the scene
The ambiance is built to fit the mood of the section: soft rain over a lonely moment, a warm cafe hum behind a conversation, a low bed of tension under a scene that is about to turn. It sits under the reading or the listen-back, quiet enough to feel and not so loud that it takes over.
What you need
Reading Ambiance uses AI sound generation to create the soundscape, so it needs an ElevenLabs key. That means it is a Pro feature, or a bring-your-own-key one. Once your key is connected, you can add ambiance to any section you want to bring to life.

Tip. Pair ambiance with Listen-Back or a Table Read. The right sound bed under a spoken scene is the closest your draft gets to being performed.

Listen-Back: hear what your eyes skip
Have MakeVox read your draft aloud. Your ears catch the clunky lines, repeated words, and awkward rhythm your eyes glide right past.
Table Read: hear your scene performed
Give every character their own voice and let MakeVox perform the scene, like a cast read-through. Dialogue that no real person would say jumps right out.
Getting started: speak your first chapter
Open MakeVox, hit record, and talk. Your AI editor shapes the rough dictation into clean prose, and your outline grows as you go.
